You will see an abundance of red in some fields this early summer. What was the oilseed rape's loss has been the poppies' gain. In some areas, with the cold and dry weather conditions, flea beetle decimated quite a few oilseed rape crops. Lack of plant competition opened up the ground to the dormant poppy seeds which now flourish. Although they are of little benefit to the farmer, the sight for the passerby is impressive. Enjoy!
